The Level of Self-Concept of Al-Balqa Applied University Students

Objectives: The study aimed to reveal the level of self-concept among the students of Al-Balqa Applied University, and to show whether there are differences in their level of self-concept due to the variables of gender and specialization.
Methods: The study adopted the descriptive analytical approach, and a measure of self-concept consisting of (32) items was developed, similar to the five-point Likert scale, and its validity and reliability were verified. The scale was applied to a sample of (375) male and female students from Al-Balqa Applied University who taught Islamic culture. The level of self-concept was classified according to: the low level (1.00-2.33), the medium level (2.34-3.66), and the high level (3.67-5.00).
Results: The results of the study showed that the level of total self-concept among Al-Balqa Applied University students, from their point of view, came with an average estimate of (3.45) and a standard deviation of (0.38), with a rate of (69%). It was also found that there were differences in the level of their self-concept due to the gender variable in favor of males, and there were differences in the level of their self-concept due to the variable of specialization and in favor of students of humanities disciplines.
Conclusions: The study concluded that the level of self-concept among students is average. It is higher for males and students of humanities majors. It recommends the concerned authorities to demonstrate the importance of the self-concept culture, how it is formed and the factors influencing it, using sound scientific and educational methods.
