Narrative Characters in The Collection of Short Stories (Loneliness Affinity/Olfato alwehda) by Majdi Daibes: A Cultural Critical Reading

Objectives: This study aims to provide a cultural critical reading that highlights the literary characters and patterns in the short story collection (Loneliness Affinity) by the Jordanian writer Majdi Daibes.
Methods: This study draws on narrative theory on the one hand cultural criticism on the other. It attempts to employ and test both perspectives in addressing the genre of the short story. The study aims to reveal character patterns in the short story collection "Olfato alwehda," exploring their presence in the narrative space and their representation in aesthetic, narrative, and cultural contexts. The study utilizes descriptive-analytical methodology tools to achieve these objectives.
Results: This study observed character patterns in the short story collection "Olfato alwehda " as narrative aesthetic elements embodying societal and realistic issues and cultural systems reflecting the individual's status in modern societies. The study shed light on the relationship between these characters and the worlds of dreams and nightmares on one hand, and the worlds of fantasy and imagination on the other. It also presented representations of women and men in the short story, as well as representations of figurative or borrowed characters from the realms of literature, politics, and the animal world.
Conclusions: The short story collection "Olfato alwehda" constitutes a part of the Jordanian narrative creative blog, offering various cultural systems to individuals within their social contexts. It also provides semi-reflective representations of society of society.
