Attitudes of Academics in Colleges and Media Departments in Jordanian Universities towards the Role of Social Networks in Spreading Disinformation: Survey Study

Objectives: The study aims to assess the attitudes of academics in Jordanian media colleges and departments towards disinformation, including its goals, methods, and common means of dissemination.
Methodology: The study belongs to descriptive studies, and a survey method was used. The questionnaire was a tool for collecting information, and the available sample consisted of 65 individuals.
Results: Regarding the understanding of 'What is meant by disinformation,' the results indicated that “spreading fabricated information, pictures, and drawings” recorded the highest index. With regard to the objectives of disinformation, the results showed that “Destructing the morale of the target party” recorded the highest index. As for the media most used in disinformation, the results showed that “social networks” ranked first, and “Facebook” came in the first place among the social networks most used in spreading disinformation.
Conclusion: Recommendations include establishing websites to monitor disinformation and promoting media literacy to encourage adherence to ethical principles in information sharing.
