Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed to identify the actual role of the social worker in facilitating the family’s acceptance of a released prisoner. It also aimed to identify the obstacles faced by the social worker in addressing the family's refusal, as well as to propose solutions to help develop plans for assisting the prisoner.

Methods: The researchers employed the social survey method, utilizing a questionnaire to collect data. The study population consisted of 45 social workers employed in prisons.

Results: The study found that social workers effectively communicate and make efforts to support the prisoner's family and strengthen their relationship with the prisoner. It revealed the diverse roles played by social workers to rehabilitate and assist the female prisoner from the moment of her entry into the correctional facility until the end of her sentence. The study identified that family rejection, neglect, and the perception of the prisoner’s behavior as socially defective were the most significant obstacles contributing to her repeated incarceration. The findings also indicated that social workers were often unable to make certain decisions related to the female prisoner and were burdened with excessive administrative tasks.

Conclusions: The study concluded that social workers play essential roles with released women and their families, despite facing numerous obstacles. It recommended training specialists on the findings of this study to improve the acceptance chances for released women.
