Abstract

Objectives: The research aims to study the phenomenon of rooting the critical and rhetorical term from the perspective of Ibn Sina and Ibn Rushd. It aims to reveal the motives behind their reception of Aristotle’s “The Art of Poetics.” It reveals the phenomenon of ambiguity of terminology among philosophers, and reveals forms of comparison between these terms.

Methods: The research employs the descriptive inductive method, and the receptive method. It links the phenomenon of terminological rooting to the philosophers’ motives. The research benefited from the comparative approach between Aristotle and the philosophers.

Results: The research reaches results; the first is the phenomenon of terminological rooting among philosophers linked to the origins of the theory, the second is the idea of establishing an early Arabic theory is the motivation for the philosophers’ reception of Aristotle’s book. Third: The ambiguity of the term among the philosophers is due to their attempt to explain the Aristotelian project it their terminology. Fourth: The terminological comparison comes within the framework of the pragmatics of the term, and not because of the difference in the concept.

Conclusions: The research concludes that the phenomenon of terminological rooting constitutes one of the problems of the critical and rhetorical lesson; it appears clearly in the explanations. The research explains the emergence of this problem because of the philosophers’ interest in establishing an Arabic theory directed at the Arab recipient at the time, and not transferring the Greek theory.
