Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between Jordanian university students' use of Facebook and X platforms and their engagement in Jordanian political parties. It also sought to determine whether there is a relationship between the extent to which they follow political party issues on these platforms, their engagement in party work, and their participation in the public political life in Jordan.

Methods: The study employed the audience survey approach by applying it to a purposive sample of (674) individuals who follow political party topics via Facebook, X platform, or both.

Results: The study found that the respondents followed political party issues more on X than on Facebook. The most followed topics were "political party activities that enhance political awareness among university youth". The most prominent roles of the two platforms in promoting engagement with political parties were "raising awareness of the importance of the role of youth in political and party life".

Conclusion: The study found a positive correlation between the extent to which Jordanian university students follow political party issues on Facebook and X and the role of these platforms in promoting their engagement with parties.
